As we continue to better understand the relationship between food and wellbeing there is a lot of information to sift through. What seems like it should be easy, the path to a wholesome and nutritious meal is often complicated. The reality of access to whole fresh foods, time, money and skill can get in the way of making the best choice. Other contributing factors are cultural heritage and the presence of chronic disease. Reading food labels is one way to learn how to make the best choices for you and your family.
I continue to learn and discover the foods that provide the most nutritious energy for my body. Managing a chronic digestive (gut) disease, I have learned that not all that I hear or read works for me. I have also learned that taking the time to understand the nutritional value of my choices has helped to reduce my symptoms AND the best part, provide me with choices that are delicious and good for me. Now that the FDA has updated Nutrition Labels we can choose more nutrition packed foods to contribute to our overall health and wellbeing.
